I remember doing these regular quarterly planning posts on one of my old blogs, and decided to try and bring them back here! Even though it may be easier to write the results after they have been achieved, sometimes it’s good to sketch out your goals to know what you are looking forward to. Let’s do this in 2026!
First of all, I’ll start with a general year overview and some big picture goals. Here is what I’ve been thinking about recently…
Get back into reading!
I’ve read over a hundred books in 2025, but that barely even counts! Those were mostly short stories, manga, children’s literature, and a ton of audiobooks (courtesy of Libby). At the end of the year, I barely read over 10K pages, making my books average at around 125 pages. I know that these things are bound to happen, especially if I continue reading dozens of shorts alongside longer reads. Still, I’d like to get back to reading tomes of classic literature, as well as more non-fiction. Dipping my toes into some history and science? I don’t see why not!
Blog focus
Right now, my blog is a little all over the place, but I do have a plan! I’ll be exploring more topics, such as Ukrainian literature and culture, compiling book lists, writing book reviews, and sharing my creative journey.
Original editorial illustration
I’ve been thinking about creating all original illustrations for my blog, instead of using random snapshots from my camera roll or someone else’s photos from free resources. I can stick to a certain style and make it my art project for 2026 and beyond.
Plan a vacation with my sister!
Because we never go anywhere and she deserves it… I’ve already been jotting down some ideas of places that I’d like to visit, museums and historical sites, shops and open markets, etc. Ideally, I’d like to go on a two-week vacation at the seaside! But realistically, it’ll probably be something more of a weekend getaway. I’ll see what I can arrange, though. There are many things to consider before packing up and setting sail.
Renovating the house
There’s still a lot to be done here. Tiling the bathroom, decluttering the attic, fixing up the roof… And I want to start planting a live hedge on one side of the property, which is particularly windy. Then there’s the whole shed and cellar situation, which I don’t even have the energy to think about at the moment. House management isn’t easy, especially if it’s an old house which hasn’t been lived in for over a decade.
This, that, and the other…
Then there’s my creative pursuit, which I’d rather not discuss now when the new year is creeping in. I’m plenty busy with some other projects, which are currently occupying all my attention. Once those are sorted out and I establish some routine, I’ll return to my stories.
Life gets busy! It’s always good to have some things planned out, others roughly sketched out, and everything else can be dealt with as it comes.
